Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has decided to prosecute and conduct an investigation in connection with the unjustified rise in prices for gasoline and diesel in January this year, the IMC said the press-service agencies.
According to Acting Committee Chairman Alexander Melnichenko, a decision was taken on the preliminary analysis of the situation on the markets of petroleum products nationwide. He informed that he had charged to investigate and determine how such an increase in prices for petroleum operators, that is the case, is justified.
According to A. Melnichenko, during January, world prices for gasoline and diesel fuel, particularly in European markets grew by 8% and 7% respectively. In Ukraine, meanwhile wholesale prices for high-octane gasoline rose by 9.1% on low-octane - by 10,5%, diesel fuel - by 6.2%, while retail prices - 11%, 12% and 14% respectively. The increase in wholesale prices was to influence the retail, not earlier than two weeks, given the availability of sufficient stocks of fuel for operators.
"Simultaneous similarity of the operators with respect to an abrupt and substantial increase in fuel prices show signs of violation of competition law", - said A. Melnichenko.
In addition, the acting Chairman of the Committee informed that now under consideration 42 cases against operators of regional markets petroleum products. AMC also has two cases on the nationwide market of liquefied gas used as motor fuel.
